Greetings! We don't know if there is a need or interest for this blog, but we thought we would start it to give those who love dachshunds. or who might be interested in owning one a place to talk.
This is Ruth again. If you have any questions, or want to share how house-training, obedience, etc. is going please do so. We don't have all the answers, but if doxy owners want to share what works well or what might be a problem, this will hopefully be a good place to do so.
We adopted our cherished fellow family member, Max, from Ruth and Loren almost 2 years ago. He has given us much enjoyment. He was a Valentine's Day puppy and was a gift for our daughter's 9th birthday but is more of my "baby" than hers. We hope to someday adopt another. The Petersen Family
I'm waiting for the dapple pups to be born so I can come up to see them. I love dachshunds, and I'm a grandma to 2 of them, I plan on getting another one for myself soon.
Our little dapple mother, RaeAnn, only had one pup on March 25 -- what a surprise for us! This is a first to only get one puppy in a litter. Her little girl, a solid black and tan with no dapples, was already spoken for. So we are so sorry that we do not have dapples this round for you!
Does anyone have some good tips on house breaking a new puppy? We usually give our advise, but I thought it might be helpful to hear success stories from others, too.
I use a bell. There are several sites that describe how to start a puppy with the bell - basically when you're going to take the puppy outside, you tell them "ring the bell" and ring the bell, then go out with them. You put the bell at their nose height so they can reach it when they figure out that's what gets them outside. I was pretty lucky and Chloe caught on to it REALLY quickly, but she had the beginning of potty training pretty well established. She did have a lot of house accidents before starting the bell, but she hasn't had an accident for a really long time!

We're always so happy to hear from doxy owners. And we're still waiting for the blue eyed little girl you've put an "order" in for!
